Danny Rohl could still become the Saints' boss in the future, despite the fact he didn't succeed Russell Martin.
Southampton could still launch a fresh pursuit for Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl if Ivan Juric exits the club.
This is according to talkSPORT, who have failed to rule out the possibility of the Saints reigniting their interest in the German coach, who has worked wonders with the Owls.
Rohl's future was the subject of speculation last week, with Wednesday's boss and the club's owner Dejphon Chansiri's relationship not looking in the best state.
It has been reported that the pair have buried the hatchet since then, but it remains to be seen how much longer he will remain in charge at Hillsborough.
It seems like a matter of when and not if he leaves the South Yorkshire side, with the 35-year-old having a very decent CV and managing to enjoy a very successful time with Wednesday.
Not only did he guide the club to safety against the odds at the end of last term, but he has also managed to build on that, with the club now sitting in mid-table.
They would have been in ninth place if they had secured a win against Bristol City on Wednesday evening, but they still have plenty of time to climb the table before the end of the season, with a play-off finish still possible at this stage.
They may only have an outside chance of securing a top-six place at this stage, but the fact they are in the mix for it shows how much progress they have made under Rohl.
According to talkSPORT, it wouldn't be a shock if Rohl if with the Saints come the start of the 2025/26 campaign.
The south-coast side pursued a move for the Owls' boss, and their former assistant manager, when they dismissed Russell Martin earlier this season.
But they weren't willing to fork out the £5m needed to speak to him and agree a deal.
TalkSPORT also believes Ivan Juric has a break clause in his contract that can be activated at the end of the season, and with the Saints' current boss struggling at the moment, that clause could come in handy for the top-tier club.
Rohl has done wonders at Hillsborough - and he could make a similar impact at St Mary's.
However, he would probably be a good appointment in the summer, rather than someone who should come in now.
Clearly, the Saints are enduring a very difficult season, and it would be difficult to see them staying up now.
The summer will provide the south-coast side with a chance to make a fresh start.
