All the latest news surrounding the takeover situation at Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday have endured a miserable start to the new Championship campaign.
The Owls are struggling for results after a difficult summer saw a number of key first team players depart the club.
Financial issues have plagued the Yorkshire outfit throughout the year, with players receiving late payments of wages on multiple occasions.
This has resulted in speculation surrounding the future of owner Dejphon Chansiri, with supporters urging him to sell his stake in the Championship side.
Here we look at all the latest news surrounding the ownership situation at Sheffield Wednesday…
Henrik Pedersen has overseen the start of the new Championship season, taking over the side after Danny Rohl’s exit in the summer.
The Dane has revealed that he’s discussed the team’s poor form with Chansiri, with the club in real danger of being relegated unless a turnaround is managed.
He claimed that the Thai businessman has assured him that there is no pressure to improve results as the owner understands the difficulty of the situation at hand.
"He has not complained at all," said Pedersen, via The Star.
"We are in regular contact and we all know it is a difficult position.
“This is not the question, the question is with what perspective we give this situation every day.
“I can see a lot of small things in the right direction and this is what we are working on."
Sheffield Wednesday managed just two new signings in the summer window, bringing Ethan Horvath and Harry Amass to Hillsborough on loan.
It has been reported by The Star that a banner will be raised by supporters during Sheffield Wednesday’s upcoming clash with Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
The banner is set to read: “Save Sheffield Wednesday from Chansiri” as protests surrounding the ownership persist.
Pompey have their own history with difficult owners, and are set to show solidarity with their rivals during their upcoming 3pm kick-off on Saturday.
It’s believed that Chansiri will be in attendance when the two sides meet, with the 1,500 travelling fans set to bring a banner of their own as well.
It’s also understood that black and gold balloons are set to be released during the game, as the pressure ramps up on the businessman to depart Sheffield Wednesday.
It has been reported by Alan Nixon that Chansiri is seeking external investment into the club as an alternative to selling his stake in Sheffield Wednesday.
Ex-Crystal Palace owner John Textor has previously been linked with the potential purchase of the Championship side, but no agreement has yet been reached.
It’s believed that the asking price has been a big sticking point when it comes to a full takeover of the Yorkshire outfit.
So it’s been claimed that the Thai businessman has been able to secure funding which has already helped the Owls with the recent payment of wages, which were on time for August.
According to The Star, a deal for Liam Cooper to join the club collapsed following the latest embargo placed on Sheffield Wednesday.
It’s been reported that the lifting of this embargo, which prohibits the completion of free agent signings, is not so straightforward.
This means it could be quite complicated to revive any interest in the ex-Leeds United defender, who is currently without a team.
