The Owls have had a season to forget on the pitch, and they've already had their relegation from the Championship confirmed this season. Sheffield Wednesday only have one win to their name in this year's league campaign, which came against Portsmouth back in September 2025.

Henrik Pedersen and the Hillsborough faithful will be hoping that the club's takeover is finalised at the earliest of opportunities, so they can prepare with potential signings ahead of their League One campaign next term.

Sheffield Wednesday are set to return to action after the international break, with their next league game being on Friday 3rd April, as they take on Stoke City.

It's still been a busy week for the Owls on and off the pitch though, and here at Football League World, we'll take you through the latest news at Sheffield Wednesday.

David Storch takeover update emerges

The consortium led by David Storch are seemingly edging closer to taking over Sheffield Wednesday, as he undergoes the EFL's Owners' and Directors' test.

Football financial expert, Kieran Maguire has recently highlighted that Storch's consortium had changed the financial year-end for the company set up to buy Sheffield Wednesday to the 30th of June to align with EFL rules.

If his takeover was to be confirmed, the Owls would start the 2026/27 campaign on -15 points, but the positive is that the off-field uncertainty would be resolved before the start of the new season.

Former Owls boss sends message

The Owls are continuing their preparations for the Sheffield Wednesday Community charity match on Saturday 9th May, 2026, which should be an eye-catching event with plenty of notable names set to feature.

The match will see former Sheffield Wednesday boss, Carlos Carvalhal and members of the 2015/16 squad return to Hillsborough to play their part in the game.

The club have recently shared an update from Carvalhal, where he encouraged supporters to purchase their tickets for the game, which should be one that the fans look forward to.

Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder, Barry Bannan has sent a hilarious reaction to former team-mate, Josh Windass, who scored against Sheffield United in a 2-1 win for Wrexham recently.

There's clearly still plenty of hostility towards their former rivals, and plenty of Sheffield Wednesday supporters will love to see the pair laughing at the Blades' expense.

Former Sheffield Wednesday man on the move

Josh Onomah spent a season on loan with Sheffield Wednesday in the 2018/19 campaign, whilst with parent club, Tottenham Hotspur.

The midfielder didn't make too much of an impact at Hillsborough, and has struggled with injury problems at some of the clubs he's been with permanently.

Onomah has recently moved away from English football, as he completed a move to Georgian side, Dinamo Tbilisi, where he'll be looking to make a positive impact relatively quickly.

Chris Waddles fumes at EFL

Former Sheffield Wednesday man, Chris Waddle was left fuming at the EFL's decision to potentially impose a 15 point deduction on the Owls if David Storch's takeover of the club is to be finalised.

"They've had the punishment, they've got relegated. Let somebody come in and take the club on and take the club forward. And why are they getting punished like that again? It's absolutely pathetic.

"Chelsea basically cheated their way to some trophies and get a £10million fine. Why are they not getting a 15-point deduction? No disrespect to Chelsea.
