Sheffield Wednesday's players have been the subject of late wage payments over the last several months.
Sheffield Wednesday players have been promised that a takeover of the club is coming in order to convince them to commit to the club’s upcoming league fixtures.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, the Owls have held talks with dissatisfied members of the first team squad in a bid to persuade them from going on strike.
Sheffield Wednesday players have become disgruntled in recent months due to late payment of wages, which has even led to departures such as Michael Smith and Josh Windass.
Danny Rohl has also departed as manager, leaving Henrik Pedersen in charge of the team going into the new league campaign, with this message coming hours before their opening game clash with Leicester City.
Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly told unhappy players at the club that a takeover is coming in a bid to prevent them from going on strike, as per Alan Nixon via Patreon on Sunday morning.
It has been claimed that some players are already talking to other teams about a potential switch, with them holding the option to terminate their contracts due to repeated late payments of wages.
Current owner Dejphon Chansiri has come under serious fire for his mismanagement of the Owls in recent months, with supporters urging him to sell the club.
And senior staff within the Yorkshire outfit, including manager Henrik Pedersen, have been assuaging any fears in the squad by assuring them a change in ownership is coming.
It’s understood that John Textor's name has been discussed behind the scenes as a possible buyer, although any potential purchase of Sheffield Wednesday by the American is still in the very early stages.
However, it’s believed there are multiple interested parties involved in takeover discussions and Textor has yet to find an agreement with the Thai businessman.
Sheffield Wednesday will begin their upcoming league campaign this afternoon with a 4.30pm kick-off away to the recently-relegated Leicester City.
This will be Pedersen’s first game in charge of the club after taking over from Rohl at the end of July.
The Owls have completely fallen apart under Chansiri in the last several months, and a takeover is now desperately needed.
Textor’s track record isn’t the most encouraging, but it would still bring far greater stability than the current owners.
Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly set for a major points deduction due to their financial mess, making relegation to League One a distinct possibility this season, barring an incredible run of form with a limited squad.
