FLW's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit has given his verdict on the £2m offer for Pierce Charles

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles - perhaps the club's most valuable remaining asset - is wanted by French outfit Strasbourg, who would be keen to loan him back for the rest of the 2025-26 season if they got a deal done.
As reported by The Star, the Owls have rejected a £2 million offer for the goalkeeper amid uncertainty behind the scenes at Hillsborough.
It has been a difficult summer for the Yorkshire outfit, with financial problems leading to the departures of several key first team players, as well as manager Danny Rohl.
Charles has started both of Sheffield Wednesday’s first two league games of the new campaign, but it remains unclear whether he will be with the club beyond the September 1 transfer deadline.
When asked about Strasbourg’s rejected offer, FLW’s Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna claimed that the goalkeeper simply cannot be sold this summer.
He blamed Dejphon Chansiri for the club being in this position, but highlighted the lack of alternative options in the squad for why the Owls must avoid losing Charles.
“No, we should not be looking at negotiating a price or a deal for him at this stage,” McKenna told Football League World.
“Already we have lost prospects for too little money, such as Djeidi Gassama, so if we let Charles slip through our fingers and go for a lower price, it’s an absolute disaster and not something that should be happening.
“The only reason that we have sold players like Gassama for a cut price is because of Chansiri’s incompetence and insanely poor running of the club, where he keeps running out of money and, to desperately hold on, does these deals.
“The £2 million that was mentioned, that obviously is too low and I would think Pierce is £10 million plus, if you’re looking to buy him.
“But, no, we need to keep him on, he needs to be our goalkeeper this season.
“With how we are, the amount of players we have been losing and the fact we can’t bring them in, he is our only goalkeeper.
“We’d be chucking an academy goalkeeper in to take over.
“This season reject any bids for Charles, don’t sell him.”
Charles is a young prospect with a lot of potential, so it’s no surprise clubs are circling to try and take advantage of the situation at Hillsborough once more to try and take one of their best players away.
The club will need cash from somewhere if they are unable to currently afford the next month of wages at the end of the month, which could lead to a cut-price deal way lower than his true valuation.
But losing Charles to just cover the cost of wages would be such a huge loss long-term just to make a short-term payment.
It couldn’t be clearer that serious action is needed behind the scenes at Sheffield Wednesday, with the team and supporters set to continue suffering until major change happens - Charles though is one of the only real beacons of light currently at Hillsborough, and an exit would be tough to take, even with a loan back for the rest of the season.
