An update has been provided on reported Sheffield Wednesday transfer targets Owen Bailey and Callum Paterson.

Sheffield Wednesday made their first signing of the David Storch era on Friday, with Ricardo Santos joining on a permanent deal from Swansea City for an undisclosed fee.

The American businessman completed his acquisition of the Owls ahead of the final game of last season, finally saving the club from administration and ending years of financial instability.

Although Wednesday were relegated to League One last term, it feels like an exciting new chapter for the Yorkshire-based club, who can fully rebuild under their new ownership group without any sanctions standing in the way.

This saw them swoop for Santos, who was out of favour at Swansea. The Portuguese defender boasts plenty of experience at League One level, having previously played for Bolton Wanderers between 2020 and 2025.

It seems this could be the beginning of a flurry of transfer activity at Hillsborough too, as a fresh report has emerged suggesting club figures are keen to press on with the rebuild this summer, and provided an update on two previously reported targets.

A plethora of players have already been linked with a summer move to S6, with the likes of Doncaster Rovers' Owen Bailey and MK Dons' Callum Paterson the latest names to be touted for a move to the blue side of the Steel City.

Bailey enjoyed a stellar campaign with Donny last season, scoring 13 league goals from central midfield, whilst ex-Owl Paterson helped MK Dons to promotion from League Two.

However, a fresh report by Alex Miller of The Sheffield Star has provided an update on these two specific targets, suggesting the club aren't working on a deal for either of them.

Bailey was reportedly a target for Wednesday earlier in the summer, but his signing isn't being actively pursued, with Paterson also not a live target for the Yorkshire side.

Despite this, Miller also suggested that club figures are working hard to bring in new players ahead of pre-season, and it's expected that more new faces will come through the door before the squad returns to training next Wednesday.

Following Miller's latest transfer update, some Wednesdayites shared their reaction on social media, now they know Bailey and Paterson aren't active targets for their club.

One supporter threatened to return their three season tickets if the Owls didn't re-sign Paterson.

On the other hand, another supporter was relieved Wednesday aren't pursing Paterson, clearly feeling he wouldn't offer an improvement to the team.

Another fan wasn't too clued-up on the two linked players, but reiterated the point that the Owls need lots of new players quickly.
