Shilen Patel has hailed James Morrison after naming him West Brom’s permanent head coach, insisting the club did not survive by accident.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the former Albion midfielder was placed in interim charge for the second time this season and third overall following a nine-game winless spell under Eric Ramsay.

Morrison halted the slide with a 10-game unbeaten run that secured Championship safety.

He becomes the club’s third head coach of the campaign, after Ryan Mason was dismissed and Ramsay lasted only weeks.

Patel, who took over in 2024, has faced strong criticism from supporters this season over those appointments.

Confirming the permanent appointment, Patel thanked Morrison and his staff for bringing the club together during adversity. He said the former midfielder embodies Albion’s standards and has the qualities to take the team forward, adding he is excited about the future with Morrison leading the players.
