Wolves’ relegation has at least delivered one consolation, with a raft of shorter away journeys likely in the Championship next season.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, a strong Midlands contingent is expected in the division, so travelling fans could face one of the most convenient campaigns in years.

Top of the list is West Bromwich Albion, with The Hawthorns barely seven miles from Molineux. If the Baggies avoid relegation to League One, it will be the first league meeting in front of supporters since 2012.

Birmingham City is next, around 12 miles away at St Andrew’s, a trip likely to draw thousands down the A41 for a packed away end.

Stoke City also fits the brief, the bet365 Stadium roughly 45 miles north via the M6 and a venue with fond memories for many Wolves supporters.

Derby County’s Pride Park sits about 50 miles away, while newly promoted Lincoln City is a still-manageable journey of approximately 80 miles. If Nottingham Forest join Wolves in the drop, that would add another relatively short hop across the Midlands.

For fans used to lengthy Premier League hauls, the prospect of derby days, reduced costs and fuller away sections will be a timely boost.
