Leeds United Women were held to a draw in Greater Manchester on Sunday afternoon, as Drew Greene’s opener was cancelled out by a second half goal for Cheadle Town.

The hard-fought road point follows a month off for the Whites due to fixture postponement, and after the match, boss Simon Wood expressed pride in his side’s return to competitive football.

“We knew that we would be tested physically and mentally going into the game," the boss told LUTV. “If you are not going to win a game then do not get beaten and Cheadle came into this game three points behind us, so they have not gained any ground.

“Fair play to the players because they have not had a lot of football since the turn of Christmas, so being able to go out there and fight and scrap and dig in shows a real proudness in representing the badge and the club.

“It is really good to have Amy Woodruff back, too,” Wood said of the White’s top scorer last season, who had been out to injury. “She has worked really hard to get back on the pitch today, and I think having a player like Amy back lifts everyone's spirits.

“We have got to be careful with her rest to play ratio coming back, but what an asset to have going into the final stages of the season.

“Overall, I am really proud of the players. We have dusted ourselves down and I think this is going to be quite an important point when it comes to the end of the season.”
