Reigning Serie A champions Inter eked out a precious 1-0 home win against Arsenal in Wednesday’s blockbuster UEFA Champions League fixture. Simone Inzaghi addressed the media after the game, hailing his side’s outstanding defensive performance.
“Tonight was an important response. We have 23 starting players because we know we need everyone,” the Inter boss told the club’s website after the game. “We’ve been playing every 72 hours in recent weeks, and today we faced a very strong team, so I knew we needed to rotate.
“It was a great victory in our stadium, in front of our fans. It’s important to enjoy the evening, but we know we have to play again very soon. In this cycle of matches, we started with some issues, so some players had to play more and needed to rest. I have great faith in everyone.
“We’ve played against City and Arsenal, two of the best teams in Europe, and we’re proud, but we must keep going. We need to maintain a clean sheet for the standings, and the next two matches will be tough and demanding.“
Last night’s win was Inter’s eighth in their last nine outings across all competitions. Therefore, Inter will take on Serie A leaders Napoli in high spirits next weekend. With only a point separating the sides ahead of the kick-off, they could move to the top with a win.
