Sint Truiden have announced that they have agreed a contract termination with winger Loïc Lapoussin. The former Union St Gilloise wide man joined the club last January and played a role in their bid for survival in the Belgian Pro League. However, under head coach Wouter Vrancken Lapoussin has not been part of the squad at all, and with how well the club has been performing this season, there has been no reason for Vrancken to include the Madagascan international in the team.
It is a shame that Lapoussin has found himself unwanted by a Belgian side for the second time in the space of a year. On his day, he is one of the best wingers in the Pro League in terms of helping a side in attack and defence. However, his personality and off field behavior has clashed with head coaches over the years at both domestic and international level.
There is no doubt that another team in the Pro League will be looking at whether or not the risk is worth the reward with Lapoussin. The 29-year-old was a key player for Union St Gilloise for a number of years as they returned to the Pro League. During the 2022/2023 season he scored four goals and provided nine assists in 54 games. The following season he scored six and grabbed five assists in 48 games. Lapoussin only played 12 games for Sint Truiden but was a positive player for them last season with three goals and two assists.
These numbers will tempt sides in the relegation places that could do with some extra quality. However, Lapoussin may want to look outside of Belgium for his next landing spot. Prior to joining Union he played in France with Red Star of Paris.
