Nottingham Forest have conceded that they are likely to lose Elliot Anderson to either Manchester City or Manchester United this summer.

Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Forest ‘expect Anderson to join’ one of the Manchester clubs, although neither has made ‘direct contact’ as of yet.

Elliot Anderson: The state of play

The Midlands outfit are planning to demand around £100-120 million for their midfield talisman, whom they signed for only £35m when bringing him in from Newcastle United two years ago.

In those two years, his development has only continued on an upwards trajectory – to the point Anderson is now anticipated to be a ‘shoo-in’ for Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad come June.

However, that means any concrete moves for the seven-capped international may have to wait until England’s campaign is over.

Should 16th-placed Forest fail to retain their Premier League status and finish in the bottom three, they may have to lower their pricey demands, given that Anderson will be actively pushing to depart in order to return to the top flight.

The 23-year-old has proven he’s more than capable of starting for any side in the division, and it looks as though he’ll have his pick between two of the most successful. 

If not Anderson, who else could United bring in?

Andy Mitten, a trusted United insider, previously revealed that Anderson was INEOS’ first-choice midfield target ahead of Casemiro’s impending release.

Yet, in the event he does opt for sky blue over red and black, they have compiled a list of alternatives, which includes Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba and Sandro Tonali.
