Paulo Fonseca was officially sacked earlier today, but the news of his exit came late last night after the game against AS Roma. Now, a report has suggested how much AC Milan had to pay to make the split.
The Roma game was much of the same for Milan, another game where bright sparks were seen in spells and disappointment was the common theme. However, the result was not the reason for his sacking.
Reports spread like wildfire before the game, suggesting that Fonseca was effectively already out of the door, but the head coach was not made aware of his situation until late last night, certainly, a poor way to go out.
However, the former boss has kept his humility and thanked the club and the fans for the opportunity to manage the Rossoneri.
One of the big questions about his appointment was the Portuguese’s salary, with him earning less than Stefano Pioli, and recently it came to light that the club had an option in his contract effectively to sack him ‘early’.
Today, Sky Sports (via Milan News) report that the finances behind this agreement saw Fonseca earn eight months of severance pay for his time at the club and as a result, he will no longer be on the books – something which was a drawback of the Pioli sacking.
