Levi Colwill’s Chelsea future has come back into focus, but Sky Sports have provided an important clarification around the defender’s contract situation.
Sky Sports News understands “Levi Colwill is not currently in talks over an improved contract at Chelsea, contrary to reports.” That detail matters, particularly given Colwill’s growing importance and his return from a serious ACL injury suffered last pre-season.
Colwill’s current agreement runs until 2030, including a club option year. That gives Chelsea considerable protection and explains why there is no immediate urgency.
Sky Sports News add that “discussions could resume in the summer,” but there have reportedly been no talks “since last summer.” Those earlier conversations took place before the injury that disrupted his campaign and temporarily paused his progress.
Chelsea are understood to be “saving new contract talks with players until after the end of the season,” which suggests this is more procedural than problematic.

Colwill has returned to action this month and started Chelsea’s last two games, including Saturday’s FA Cup final defeat to Man City.
That involvement is significant. After a long spell out, Chelsea have quickly trusted him in major matches. His composure, left-footed balance and ability to defend aggressively in space remain valuable qualities in this squad.
For Colwill, the immediate focus appears to be international rather than contractual. Sky Sports report that his “focus is trying to make Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad.”
He has been included in England’s provisional 55-man squad, with Tuchel set to name his final 26 on Friday. That gives Colwill a clear short-term target after a difficult injury layoff.
Chelsea do not look under pressure here, but Colwill’s situation will still be watched closely. He is young, homegrown, highly rated and tied down long term.
The logical next step is for both club and player to revisit the matter once the season ends. For now, the message is simple, no current talks, no apparent panic, and a summer window that may bring clarity.
From a Chelsea perspective, this feels like a story that needs context rather than panic. Levi Colwill not being in active contract talks might sound concerning at first glance, but his deal runs until 2030, so the club are hardly exposed.
What matters more is how Chelsea handle him from here. Colwill is exactly the type of player the club should be building around, academy developed, technically secure, physically capable and still with major room to grow.
The ACL injury makes this a delicate situation. Chelsea should not rush into emotional decision making, but they also cannot allow uncertainty to build around one of their most important young defenders.
His return to the side, especially in high pressure fixtures, shows how highly he is valued internally. That should reassure supporters.
The England angle is also fascinating. If Colwill makes Thomas Tuchel’s final 26, his profile rises again. That could strengthen his position when talks resume.
For Chelsea fans, the ideal outcome is straightforward, let him finish the season, let him chase the World Cup dream, then sit down in the summer and reward him properly.
