Sky Sports reporting that Newcastle United have turned down an approach for Matt Targett.
Keith Downie covers United for the broadcaster and says that Watford wanted to take the defender on loan for the rest of the season.
However, the Championship club getting no joy.
The Sky Sports man stating that with Lloyd Kelly seemingly set to join Juventus on a loan deal which includes a £15m obligation to buy in the summer, it means Eddie Howe would be losing two left-back options for the rest of the season.
Injury and illness have plagued Matt Targett the last couple of years and he now finds Lewis Hall as the undisputed first choice at left-back.
Unless a decent fee was guaranteed, either now or in the summer, letting Targett go now would make zero sense.
I think he is still a good option for Newcastle United, certainly as cover, plus I think that if he was to leave, surely a club lower down the Premier League would see him as a decent option.
