Manchester United supporters can breathe a little easier – for now. According to Sky Sports News’ chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol, club captain Bruno Fernandes appears likely to remain at Old Trafford this summer, despite the most lucrative of offers from Saudi Arabia.
In a landscape increasingly shaped by moneyed overtures from the Saudi Pro League, Ruben Amorim’s public comments have carried more than the standard diplomatic tone. Instead of deflecting transfer talk with cliché, the incoming United manager hinted at conversations of significance between himself and Fernandes.
“You could tell he’s spoken to Bruno Fernandes and Fernandes has said to him, ‘I’ve got this incredible offer, it’s like I’ve won Euro Millions, £200m over three years. This is life-changing money, boss but you know I’m not motivated by money. I love football, I love Manchester United’.”
It’s an extraordinary glimpse into the psyche of Fernandes, a player who has often shouldered United’s on-field identity. That such a staggering offer could be dismissed speaks volumes about his motivation and belief in Amorim’s project.

Kaveh Solhekol confirmed that Al Hilal, one of Saudi Arabia’s powerhouse clubs, had put Fernandes high on their list. “They’ve been trying to sign Ronaldo, they’ve been trying to sign Bruno Fernandes, they’re trying to get Simone Inzaghi out of Inter.” But despite the pressure to secure a marquee name ahead of the Club World Cup, they look to have failed in their pursuit of United’s number eight.
Solhekol added, “Looking at Ruben Amorim today, I think it’s pretty clear and final that Bruno Fernandes is going to stay.”
There was further weight in the phrasing used to describe Fernandes’ role. “I think he’s sat down and spoken to Ruben Amorim and he’s told him he is an integral part of the rebuild at Manchester United. I think he’s happy to stay.”
After a turbulent few seasons and amid questions surrounding squad direction, the idea of building around Fernandes offers a note of continuity and reassurance. The 29-year-old remains United’s creative spark, and any manager with ambition would be wise to see him as central to future success.

Solhekol did add a note of caution. “Never say never in the transfer market, the window hasn’t even opened yet. Anything could eventually happen.” While the landscape can shift quickly, particularly with Saudi clubs flush with resources and ambition, all current signs point to Fernandes staying in Manchester.
Amorim’s openness, Fernandes’ reported loyalty, and the sheer scale of his role at the club all indicate that the heart of United’s midfield will remain intact – at least for another season.
For Manchester United fans, this report feels like a rare dose of optimism. It’s not often you see a player turning down £200m and still pledging loyalty to a club that’s struggled to match its historical pedigree in recent years.
Fernandes staying is not just about keeping a talented player – it’s about keeping an identity. His passion, relentless energy, and commitment on the pitch are exactly what fans want to see. After a campaign of tactical confusion and inconsistency, having someone like Ruben Amorim take the reins and immediately signal that Bruno is part of the foundation is reassuring.
This also feels like a turning point. If United can convince players to stay for sporting ambition over financial temptation, it bodes well for a culture shift under Amorim. Fans want to believe in a rebuild – not just a recycling of players. Keeping Bruno might be the symbolic first step.
There’s still concern – of course there is. Until the window shuts, no one is safe. But this feels different. It’s the first time in a while fans can look at a summer and think, “We’ve got our guy, and he’s going nowhere.”
