Slavia v Sparta Prague descends into fan clashes after pitch invasion | OneFootball

The Czech top-flight derby between Slavia and Sparta Prague descended into violence in stoppage time on Saturday, the match unable to be completed after a pitch invasion and projectiles thrown towards the stands.

Home supporters stormed the Fortuna Arena pitch and launched fireworks towards the Sparta away end as Slavia led 3-2 and closed in on a 14th league title. Slavia president Jaroslav Tvrdik said on the club’s X account on Saturday evening that only three or four minutes separated them from celebrations, called it the biggest shame in his 11 years at the club, and apologised to ordinary fans and viewers.

In 2020 the Prague derby was already the scene of racist behaviour.

In 2019 a section of supporters led to both capital clubs receiving a one-match stadium closure. The punishments followed a pitch invasion during a Champions League third qualifying round tie for Sparta, and pyrotechnics thrown into the Sigma Olomouc supporters’ section during a league match for Slavia.

In October 2023 Slavia fans were also responsible for incidents in Rome, where three stewards were injured.
