'So many untruths': Former Arne Slot assistant in fiery interview as 'chaos' grows

The title-winners of last season can't avoid chaos - even those who left Liverpool over the summer. A fiery interview sums it all up.

Liverpool fell to a fourth consecutive Premier League defeat on Saturday as Brentford beat them 3-2. It undid the goodwill that the Reds found with their 5-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt, with Liverpool falling back to where they were.

The fall-off this season has been dramatic and unlike anything we've really seen. The club spent massively to improve on a title-winning squad, ripping up what delivered the trophy with some massive signings.

Only, it's all fallen apart. Incredibly, even Johnny Heitinga, who left his job as Arne Slot's assistant to join Ajax as head coach in the summer, has been unable to avoid the 'chaos'.

He's struggling for consistency over in the Netherlands, though Ajax did climb to third on Sunday with a 3-2 win over Twente. But Heitinga gave a fiery interview afterwards, telling ESPN that they'd made life significantly more difficult for him and his team.

“I'm only [doing this interview] because of the contractual obligations we have with ESPN. You have released an article with so many untruths in it. I think that, and we think that's bad," said Heitinga, per ESPN.

“Those untruths create chaos. When players come to me and say, 'That's not said at all'. Then an unnecessary situation is created. Especially through an article that, really true, largely makes no sense.”

Ajax struggle under Heitinga

The struggling of Ajax this season is particularly notable for Liverpool. First and foremost because they have two players on loan over there in Viteslav Jaros and James McConnell.

McConnell, in particular, has had an incredibly difficult campaign so far. He's barely featured, with several players picked ahead of him and a general surprise that he was even signed in the first place.

But what's really strange about all this is that it's history repeating itself. Liverpool saw similar last season as Pep Lijnders, Jurgen Klopp's assistant, took over at Red Bull Salzburg and immediately struck deals with the Reds.
