FC Sochaux’s mascot Sochalion was stolen from Stade Bonal shortly before the club’s final National match against Le Puy, which ended 2-2, then found a week later at a local caterer, according to L'Est Républicain.
The incident occurred on the morning of the match, which sealed the Francs-Comtois’ return to Ligue 2.
A 35-year-old man was identified through phone analysis and photographs showing him putting on the costume. He has admitted the act and is due to stand trial on 15 April.
He allegedly entered Bonal that morning using his work vehicle and food trays to pass unnoticed, allowing him to remove the outfit without alerting security.
It was apparently a form of revenge after the caterer stopped working with FCSM late last year following disagreements over rates. The mascot is safe.
