Roberto De Zerbi has cast doubt on Richarlison’s future at Tottenham Hotspur, saying ‘sometimes he wants to leave’.
Spurs squared off with Chelsea in the Sydney Super Cup for a pre-season friendly on Saturday.
New signing Sandro Tonali gave Tottenham an early lead before Estevao headed home a quick equaliser.
Kevin Danso’s red card in the 49th minute reduced the Lilywhites to 10 men, but they emerged victorious after Richarlison’s injury-time winner.
Speaking after the match, De Zerbi suggested the Brazilian’s time at Tottenham may be coming to an end.
He said(per BBC Sport): “I don’t know. I didn’t understand well because sometimes he says he wants to stay, sometimes he wants to leave. We have to speak anyway. There is not any problem. He’s a lovely guy.”
Richarlison has endured a difficult time in North London since making a £60 million move from Everton in 2022.
He has failed to make a big impact for his club due to persistent injury issues.
Richarlison scored 12 goals in 43 appearances last season, but his performances were marked by inconsistency.
His contract at Spurs will expire in June next year, putting pressure on the club to sell him this summer or risk losing him for nothing.
Tottenham have been the most active Premier League side in the ongoing transfer window.
They splashed a £100m fee to sign Tonali, while Jan Paul van Hecke and Mateus Fernandes have also arrived in big money transfers.
Tottenham are not done yet this summer, with more signings expected over the coming days.
