AttackingFootball has been consistent in their reports and beliefs surrounding Manchester United’s interest in Ederson from Atalanta, and this summer is expected to be a continuation of their interest.

The Brazilian midfielder, who has been touted at £45million for several windows now, is firmly anticipated to leave Bergamo this summer. and does not have a shortage of interest in his signature. Ederson is not expected to sign a new deal with the Italian club, leaving just one year left on his deal. Atalanta has to decide whether to sell the player now or risk losing him for free in a year.

Ederson has been admired by United internally for some time, dating back to the 2024 transfer window, when United had quite consistent contact with his agency. Liverpool were among the clubs interested back then, and also made contact with the player in the same manner. The side from Merseyside is likely to take a look at the midfielder again this summer as they look to add more steel to a wavering central area under Arne Slot.

With Casemiro leaving and Manuel Ugarte likely to follow, the general feeling is that United will look to sign at least two midfielders, with a third not ruled out. Manuel Ugarte will end his time at the club this summer if the right offer comes in, and it may come as a relief to the Uruguayan. Ugarte and his family were subject to some harsh criticism during his period at the club, and the player has been finding it very difficult to deal with the unwarranted targeting that comes with playing for England’s biggest club.

Sources close to us here at AttackingFootball have confirmed Manchester United are indeed targeting Ederson for this summer, and have already made contact with the player to register their interest. The price tag is expected to be around £45m.

Nothing concrete has happened yet, and Ederson is not currently the prime number one target. The club are instead assessing their options, but thequality of Ederson is of interest, and his price tag will be viewed internally at the club as a market opportunity.

Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton remain high on the list, along with Jorge Mendes, who represented Matheus Fernandes, and £100m+ rated Elliott Anderson.

United will be busy this summer, and Ederson will continue to be one of the names linked to the midfield position, but United do face competition from elsewhere. Liverpool and Atletico Madrid are likely to be two of the clubs, with a host of others also keen on the midfielder.
