Newcastle United are ready to join the race for in-demand Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush as he looks to be available this summer.

As I’ve previously reported, Omar Marmoush has a genuine chance of leaving Man City in this transfer window after failing to establish himself as a regular at the Etihad Stadium.

The Egypt international is still on the agenda of a few clubs, with Tottenham and Barcelona still among his suitors, as I’ve previously been informed.

It’s been a bit slow to get going so far, with Marmoush perhaps not at the very top of anyone’s lists, even if there is genuine appreciation from Barca as they look for low-cost signings up front due to Julian Alvarez being too expensive.

Spurs are also keeping Marmoush in their plans, and there have been some informal contacts, but they are currently understood to have other priorities, most notably Savinho and Cody Gakpo.

As first reported on the Daily Briefing, my sources now tell me that Newcastle could be an interesting development to watch, as they’re also keen on Marmoush and how have significant money to spend.

The 27-year-old looks like he could be just what the Magpies need at the moment after a difficult summer that has seen several star names depart.

Anthony Gordon was sold to Barcelona, Sandro Tonali moved to Tottenham, and a deal taking Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal is imminent.

This leaves Newcastle with huge amounts to spend as they got significant fees for these players, so respected figures in the industry expect that they could be best-placed to afford City’s €60-65m asking price for Marmoush.

“Newcastle know they need to do some serious business up front,” one source told me. “Their forward signings last summer haven’t done it, there are already serious doubts about Nick Woltemade’s future, and Marmoush is someone they’ve got high up on their list.

“He won’t come cheap, but Newcastle are under pressure to make a splash like that now, after recouping so much from player sales. There hasn’t been an approach yet, but it’s one to keep an eye on, for sure.”

It’s worth noting that City are not desperate to sell Marmoush as they could do with the squad depth, but most intermediaries with knowledge of the situation expect that they’ll do business for the right price.
