South Africa v Canada ratings: Eustaquio eclipses Williams’ heroics | OneFootball

A late winner sent Canada into the World Cup last 16, overshadowing a superb display from South Africa keeper Ronwen Williams.

According to L'Équipe, Jonathan David struggled up front, slicing wide from a corner at 17 minutes. He won zero of eight duels, conceded two fouls and lost 13 possessions, and was rated four out of 10.

Williams repelled a tame Cornelius header on 22 minutes, a rising Oluwaseyi effort on 35, Buchanan from point-blank on 44, then denied Oluwaseyi one-on-one on 64. Rated seven out of 10.

Left-back Aubrey Modiba was ragged but largely sound, with three interceptions and six of eight duels won, and he cleared Bombito’s goalbound header off the line on 44. Rated six out of 10.

Khuliso Mudau often toiled down the right. He escaped a penalty after contact with Richie Laryea on 45, then offered more going forward after the break. Rated four out of 10.

Nathan Saliba’s pressing and ball recovery helped against a deep block, a team-high nine regains. Booked on 54 and replaced early by SIGUR on 59. Rated six out of 10.

Stephen Eustaquio returned to the XI as captain, later handing the armband to Alphonso Davies after the winger’s introduction. He completed five recoveries and 13 passes in the final third, then guided a crisp cross-shot inside the far post at 90+2 for seven out of 10.
