Bafana Bafana take on co-hosts in first ever World Cup knockout game
South Africa have been boosted ahead of their first ever World Cup knockout stage clash, taking on Canada, with influential midfielder Teboho Mokoena returning to the squad.
The 29-year-old was forced to sit out Bafana Bafana’s 1-0 win over South Korea, but he is now available for selection after his one-game ban and is expected to slot straight back into the starting line-up.
While Mokoena's return strengthens the midfield, South Africa will still have to cope without experienced playmaker Themba Zwane. The veteran remains suspended after receiving a red card in Bafana Bafana's opening match of the World Cup, against Mexico on June 11, and his absence will be felt in attack.
Mokoena is likely to replace Yaya Sithole in what could prove to be the only change. Up front, Evidence Makgopa is expected to retain his place as the focal point of the attack after leading the line in the previous outing.

Canada, meanwhile, have injury concerns as they leave Toronto for California.
Midfielder Ismael Kone has been ruled out after suffering a fractured tibia during Canada's second group-stage match against Qatar. His injury is a major setback for the co-hosts amid additional concerns surrounding Stephen Eustaquio and Alfie Jones.
Eustaquio is currently dealing with a muscle problem, while Jones is struggling with fitness issues. Both players will be given every chance to be passed fit before a final decision is made regarding their availability.
There is, however, some positive news for Canada with star man Alphonso Davies pushing for his first minutes of the tournament. The defender has been nursing a hamstring injury, but reports suggest the Bayern Munich full-back could come off the bench against Bafana Bafana.
Further forward, Jonathan David and Cyle Larin are set to continue up top, while Tajon Buchanan should keep his place on the wing.
Predicted South Africa XI (4-4-2): Williams; Mudau, Mbokazi, Okon, Modiba; Mbatha, Mokoena; Maseko, Mofokeng, Appollis; Makgopa
