South Korea and South Africa will face off in a decisive Group A clash at Monterrey Stadium on Thursday, with both sides needing a positive result to keep their World Cup hopes alive and reach the next stage of the tournament.
South Korea, in contrast, have had a steadier campaign but are looking to bounce back after a setback.
They opened strongly with a 2–1 win over Czechia but were narrowly beaten 1–0 by Mexico in their second match. A draw in this final group game will be enough to see them through.
The Korean squad is in good physical condition, with head coach Hong Myung-bo confirming that there are no injury concerns.
However, due to the demanding heat in Monterrey, some rotation is expected. Hong has suggested that two or three changes could be made to the usual starting eleven.
This may include moving captain Son Heung-min to a wider role to add more attacking variety.
There are also disciplinary concerns for South Korea, as Lee Kang-in, Paik Seung-ho, and Lee Han-beom are all one booking away from suspension, which would rule them out of a potential Round of 32 match.
In goal, Jo Hyeon-woo is set to start, with Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae leading a solid three-man defensive line.
Possible South Korea starting XI: S. Kim; H. Lee, M.J. Kim, G. Lee; M.H. Kim, Hwang, Paik, Seol; K. Lee, J. Lee; Son.
The match will kick off at 2am BST on Thursday, 25th June.
