According to ExpressAndStar.com, an independent commission is due to convene on Tuesday to examine the Spygate case, leaving Southampton, Middlesbrough and Hull waiting for clarity over the Championship play-off final.
Saints were charged by the EFL 10 days ago after being reported for allegedly spying on a Middlesbrough training session at Rockliffe Park before the first leg of their semi-final.
Tonda Eckert’s side withstood an early barrage to draw 0-0 at the Riverside Stadium, then won the return 2-1 after extra time, setting up a Wembley meeting with surprise package Hull.
Middlesbrough have publicly called for Southampton to be barred from the showpiece because of the alleged conduct.
An appeal remains possible, extending uncertainty for clubs, supporters and stakeholders. Southampton and Hull began ticket sales on Friday. Contingency plans were outlined on Thursday and fans were advised the fixture could yet change depending on the disciplinary outcome.
The final is currently planned for 4.30pm on Saturday, 23 May.
Saints returned to training on Sunday. Hull have sought to stay focused on the south coast club, with Sergej Jakirovic’s squad working on Thursday and Friday after their semi-final win at third-placed Millwall, then resuming at Cottingham on Monday following a weekend off.
Boro’s players and staff, including head coach Kim Hellberg, were due back at Rockliffe Park on Monday with the play-off final still a possibility.
