Southampton boss Johannes Spors among candidates for Wolfsburg sporting director role | OneFootball

Kicker reports that Southampton technical director Johannes Spor is among the candidates for VfL Wolfsburg’s vacant sporting director position. The Bundesliga outfit still scrambles to find someone capable of handling personnel matters in the front office after sacking Sebastian Schindzielorz two weeks ago.

Germany’s green company team initially focused their efforts on Hoffenheim personnel boss Andeas Schicker, but were unable to secure the Austrian’s services despite plenty of turmoil in the TSG front office. Kicker lists two other names in addition to Spor that Wolfsburg might be interested in. 

Hannover’s Marcus Mann and Elversberg’s Nils-Ole Book are reportedly also on the Lower Saxon Autostädter short list. Sport Bild and Kicker have both received confirmation from Hannover President Martin Kind that Wolfsburg have established contact with Mann. 

Spor last worked administratively in Germany as a scouting director for Hamburger SV. The 43-year-old also held scouting positions with Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig prior to taking his career abroad in 2020. Since then, he’s worked in France, Italy, Portugal, Belgian, Spain, England, and Australia. 

At present, Spor dons two hats as a technical director for Southampton and Global Sports Director for French third division outlet FC Valenciennes. Spors was very active in recruiting German footballers to the Isle outfit this summer. 

Spors’ involvement with global footballing investment firms such as Lars Windhorst’s “777 Group” and London’s “Sport Republic” is the reason he’s oftentimes been involved with several clubs in different locales simultaneously.
