Samuel Edozie has been linked with a move away from Southampton this summer
Southampton winger Samuel Edozie is eyeing up a move to Belgian giants Club Brugge amid uncertainty over his future at St Mary’s.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the forward is hoping the Saints will accept the Belgian club’s next offer.
Edozie has been with the Saints since the 2022 summer transfer window, but he spent last year out on loan with Anderlecht.
The 22-year-old contributed two goals and two assists from 17 appearances in the Belgian Pro League, helping the side come fourth in the table.
Edozie has reportedly told Southampton in a meeting on Tuesday that he wants the club to accept Club Brugge’s latest offer amid interest from a number of teams.
It is believed that the Saints are holding out for a deal worth €10 million (£8.6 million), but the Belgian outfit’s most recent offer falls below that valuation.
Reports suggest that the Club Brugge’s most recent bid is worth €8 million (£6.9 million), and it remains to be seen whether the Hampshire outfit can be convinced to accept.
Edozie has struggled for consistent game time at Southampton since arriving from Manchester City, and it’s unclear whether he would have a role in Will Still’s plans, should he stay.
He featured 32 times for the club when they earned promotion from the Championship under Russell Martin in 2024, which included 16 starts, but spent the majority of last season on loan at Anderlecht - Club Brugge's divisional rival.
Edozie has a contract with Southampton until the summer of 2027, meaning there is no immediate need to cash in before the 1 September deadline.
The difference between £6.9 million and £8.6 million isn’t nothing, but surely a compromise of some kind can be found to facilitate a move.
Edozie is unlikely to be a part of Still’s plans going forward, and the player is clearly keen on a return to Belgium.
Bringing in roughly £7 million would be good business for Edozie, and could help raise some funds for any further deals this summer.
