Southampton midfielder Mateus Fernandes is set to undergo a medical ahead of joining West Ham United, according to the Daily Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath.
West Ham have been in talks with Southampton all summer over a deal to bring the Portuguese player to the London Stadium.
An agreement appears to have been reached between the Hammers and the Championship club for the 21-year-old.
West Ham manager Graham Potter desperately needed reinforcements in the middle of the park before the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.
Defeats against Sunderland and Chelsea further highlighted their weaknesses in the position, and the arrival of Fernandes will be a much-needed boost.
The Hammers were dumped out of the League Cup after losing 3-2 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the second round on Tuesday night.
They are back in Premier League action on Sunday with a trip to City Ground to face Nottingham Forest, and having Fernandes available for the game could be a big boost.
Potter is not under pressure right now, but West Ham co-owner David Sullivan has been keen to lay the blame for their recent struggles on the coaching staff.
He believes they are at fault after failing to get the most out of the players, and their manager will be desperate to head into the international break on the back of a win.
AS Monaco defensive midfielder Soungoutou Magassa is also expected to join the Hammers in the coming hours, and he could be available for selection against Forest.
West Ham reached an agreement to sign the Frenchman earlier this week, and the deal is expected to be made official soon despite Eintracht Frankfurt attempting to hijack the move.
More signings are expected ahead of the transfer deadline next Monday, and Potter will hope he can acquire players capable of hitting the ground running.
