Just as extra time loomed, Lammens' spilled save was punished to maximum effect by Merino, who sends Spain to their second World Cup semi-final.
OFF THE LINE
Wow, what a chance for Belgium. Alexis Saelemaekers rounds Simon and clips towards goal. Aymeric Laporte recovers just in time and clears off the line.

GOOOAL SPAIN!
Pau Cubarsí thumps a powerful shot straight at Lammens, who spills into the path of Mikel Merino and the midfielder finishes high into the net.
Spain are piling on the pressure as we enter the final five minutes. Yamal controls again in the box but Belgium manage to clear.
Yamal almost latches on to a lofty ball over the Belgium defence, but his touch is too heavy and Lammens gathers.
An unfortunate change for Belgium with Thibaut Courtois coming off due to injury. Man United stopper Senne Lammens comes in for the final stretch of this game.
Back to it in Los Angeles for the final 20 minutes. Can either side net the winning goal?

Belgium fly forward again on the counter and appeal for a penalty as the ball strikes Rodri on the arm before De Bruyne fires at Simon. The referee waves away any Belgian appeals for a handball.
CHANCE SPAIN
Spain continue to dominate the tempo and Yamal tries his luck again from distance, but Courtois is equal to the effort once more.
CHANCE BELGIUM
Belgium show their strength on the counter again as they break into the Spain defence and De Kuyper fires narrowly wide into the side-netting.

Spain have a couple of blocked shots before Yamal's powerful effort is deflected wide.
SECOND HALF
Spain vs Belgium gets back underway with the score level at 1-1.
That Belgium equaliser certainly caught La Roja off guard.

Ruiz's opener was quickly cancelled out by De Ketelaere's brave header. Honours even at the break!

What a run of clean sheets it was, but now, Spain and Belgium are level as first-half injury time commences.
GOOOAL BELGIUM!
Wow, in their first real attack, Belgium find the back of the net! Charles De Ketelaere is first to react to a cross into the box and headers low into the net as Spain conceded their first goal at the 2026 World Cup.
Yamal continues to look dangerous as he nips inside from the right flank and lashes into the side-netting.
CHANCE SPAIN
Spain have cranked up the tempo and Yamal's low free-kick is pushed to safety by Courtois.
That was Ruiz's first-ever World Cup goal as La Roja look to go up another gear with a strong spell of possession.
GOOOAL SPAIN
Dani Olmo's sweeping shot is saved by Thibaut Courtois, but the ball lands straight in Fabián Ruiz's path and the midfielder rifles into the net.
The action resumes for the remainder of the first half.
We've reached the first hydration break and it's all square.
CHANCE SPAIN
Lamine Yamal has a run at the Belgian defence and tries to find the bottom corner with a curling effort that bounces just wide.
Belgium come forward with intent and Maxim De Cuyper's floated cross is comfortably gathered by Unai Simon.
Belgium clear the initial ball into the box, but Spain recycle and Rodi's powerful shot is blocked.
Spain get a free-kick in a dangerous position after Lamine Yamal draws a foul near the edge of the Belgium area.
KICK OFF
We're up and running in Los Angeles.
Official confirmation of that last-minute change for Belgium. Youri Tielemans is out injured and Hans Vanaken comes in.

Spain come into this occasion having not conceded a single goal so far whilst Belgium put in, arguably, their best performance of the World Cup last time out with the demolition of USA. This is going to be a good one.
