Luis de la Fuente has named Spain’s 26-man squad for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, as La Roja chase a second star. The training camp begins on Saturday 30 May, hours before the Champions League final.
According to Diario Vasco, Spain will face Iraq on 4 June and Peru on 9 June before group games against Cape Verde on 15 June, Saudi Arabia on 21 June and Uruguay on 27 June.
De la Fuente will take three goalkeepers, opting against a fourth non-registered back-up. Unai Simón, 28, is the likely starter barring a major surprise, with David Raya and Joan García completing the trio.
The defence comprises Marcos Llorente, Pedro Porro, Pau Cubarsí, Eric García, Aymeric Laporte, Marc Pubill, Marc Cucurella and Alejandro Grimaldo.
Midfield options are Rodrigo Hernández, Martín Zubimendi, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Pedri, Fabián, Mikel Merino and Álex Baena. Rodri remains the fulcrum, while Merino’s fitness is uncertain after his foot injury in February.
The forwards are Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, Ferran Torres, Yéremy Pino, Mikel Oyarzabal, Borja Iglesias and Víctor Muñoz. De la Fuente has said Yamal will be ready for the second match after hamstring issues, and Oyarzabal is his key reference in front of goal. The fitness of Yamal and Williams could shape Spain’s attacking output.
