Spain set World Cup history with Real Madrid decision | OneFootball

Spanish national team boss Luis de la Fuente has this week made history.

This comes courtesy of his decision not to include a single Real Madrid player in his squad for the upcoming World Cup.

De La Fuente’s panel of stars for the upcoming North American showcase was unveiled on Monday, featuring a whole host of leading names from across La Liga and beyond.

The likes of David Raya, Marc Cucurella, Lamine Yamal and Pedri were all afforded deserved places in La Roja’s ranks.

As alluded to above, however, overlooked entirely were the entire playing squad at Real Madrid.

Dani Carvajal’s exclusion was widely predicted, but Dean Huijsen being left at home has come as something of a surprise, with the youngster having played an important role under the watch of Luis de la Fuente.

And owing to as much, the Spanish staff have made history.

For the first time ever, not a single first-team Real Madrid star has been included in the country’s travelling party for a World Cup.
