Their most famous success arrived on 11 July 2010 in Johannesburg, a 1-0 victory over the Netherlands that delivered Spain’s only World Cup. Andrés Iniesta struck in the 116th minute.

In European Championship finals, Spain have four wins and one defeat. They beat the USSR 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu in 1964, then lost 2-0 to hosts France in Paris in 1984. Further titles followed, 1-0 against Germany in 2008 and 4-0 against Italy in 2012, before the 2-1 win over England in 2024 through Nico Williams and Oyarzabal.

Spain have played three of the four Nations League finals. They lost 2-1 to France in 2021 after a controversial Mbappé goal was allowed, won the 2023 title on penalties after a 0-0 with Croatia, then lost the 2025 showpiece on spot-kicks after a 2-2 draw with Portugal.

Their only Confederations Cup final ended 3-0 to hosts Brazil at the Maracanã late in Vicente del Bosque’s tenure. At the Olympics, Spain have reached four finals, winning gold at Barcelona 1992 by beating Poland 3-2 and losing the Sydney 2000 final to Cameroon on penalties after a 2-2 draw. In Paris 2024, they defeated hosts France 5-3, with doubles from Fermín and Camello and a goal from Álex Baena.
