We are merely three months away from witnessing the next scheduled El Clasico in La Liga, as Barcelona are slated to take on Real Madrid on May 11.
Since this will be a home game for Barça, the club must finalise the home stadium. But therein lies the caveat.
Barcelona’s ongoing agreement with the authorities at Montjuic has been extended in light of the delays at the Camp Nou construction project.
But it has been only extended until the end of April, whereas there are doubts about Camp Nou becoming match-ready by May 11.
This has led to speculation that Barcelona are considering shifting El Clasico to an overseas European venue that can accommodate a match of such grandeur.

Seeking such an arrangement, of course, would require the approval of the Spanish footballing federation as well as La Liga.
To that end, SPORT reports that the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) could be open to listening to Barcelona’s proposal over an overseas Clasico in May.
The report adds that the idea of Clasico being hosted abroad would not face frontal opposition from the RFEF.
Barcelona remain determined to have the Camp Nou match ready by the scheduled date. But the club must ready contingency plans, in case something goes awry.
As per the report, RFEF’s agreement with the idea of an overseas Clasico would not have been possible under the previous president, Luis Rubiales.
