An exciting midfielder is ready to join Liverpool, and he's the perfect option for the club.

The middle of the park is where the Reds have invested the least over the last two years. That's partly down to the fact that there was a massive overhaul in the midfield during the course of the 2023 summer window.

Back then Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister all arrived in the same window while James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho all left among others.

This proved to be the perfect scenario for Liverpool. All of those signings have turned out to be hugely successful.

However, over two years later, it's clear that Liverpool's midfield needs a little bit of a refresh. Especially, if Arne Slot is going to persist with the diamond formation.

Going forward, Liverpool need more depth in that department in order for his current options now to run out of gas.

The biggest priority in the midfield is someone who can cover for Ryan Gravenberch. A player who can win the ball on a regular basis and also cover a lot of distances and have energy and speed in the middle of the park.

For that position one of the best midfielders in Europe's top five leagues right now is RC Lens' Mamadou Sangare. It should come as no surprise given the description of what Liverpool need that the Malian midfielder actually spent time at Red Bull Salzburg - just like Szoboszlai.

Sangare's work-rate and speed is very similar to the Hungarian. He's been the beating heart of Lens' midfield who are currently at the top of Ligue 1, one point above Paris Saint Germain.

The 23-year-old has had a different sort of path to Europe's top five leagues. He never quite managed to break into Salzburg's first-team but went on a series of loans and then established himself at Rapid Vienna last season.

Sangare earned a move with his impressive performances in the Europa Conference League on the back of that and the rest is history.

He's now dominating in France and showing he's ready to make the step-up to an even bigger club, including one of Liverpool's stature..

No midfielder has averaged more successful defensive actions (9.63 per 90) than him in Ligue 1 this season. He’s also made the most tackles and interceptions (61) and the most recoveries (98) in the league.

This is exactly the type of midfielder Liverpool need to provide that extra spark and energy in the middle of the park. Sangare is very much of the gegenpressing mould.

He'd ignite a lot of fuel and fire to the club's midfield area.

And he's under the radar. He's not someone massively sought after like Elliot Anderson or Adam Wharton. He's someone who could still be brought in for a decent price, with Liverpool 'beating' the market - just as they had done on so many numerous times before.

Maybe Sangare is not one for the January transfer window. He's off to the African Cup of Nations with Mali anyway. However, in the summer, on the back of a solid season with Lens, he will be very sought after and that is when Liverpool should be in the conversation for him.

He'd be the ideal replacement for Endo, who is definitely not a long-term option for the Reds. Sangare on the other hand could very much become that.

Which is why the Reds should be all over him.
