One Liverpool winger has to be on the move in January after his exploits recently.
The club do not have a lot of attacking depth at the moment. Alexander Isak is out injured, Mohamed Salah is still away at AFCON, which leaves just Rio Ngumoha, Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa and Hugo Ekitike as the only recognised attackers in the team.
Jeremie Frimpong is able to play further forward but the jury is out on what his exact position is in the team just yet.
In these circumstances, it feels odd to say that an attacking player should leave the club.
However, with an extremely talented individual in the club's U21 set-up, there is no choice but to let him go on a temporary move in order to unleash his full potential.
Sometimes, Liverpool have to have the best interest of their players motivate their decisions.
Trent Kone-Doherty has always had a lot of hype surround him during his academy years. He's been regarded as an elite talent for the first-team ever since he arrived at the club as a 16-year-old.
The youngster tore defences apart as an U18 player and has done extremely well after making the step-up to the U21s. He's shone on a couple of times with the first-team as well.
Now 19-years-old, and soon to be 20 in the summer, it's clear that he can no longer be with the U21s, nor there is the desire from Arne Slot to regularly promote him to the first-team, even right now when there are a shortage of options in attack.
This week Kone-Doherty netted in a 1-1 draw against Wrexham for Liverpool's U21 side. This was a Wrexham side lining up with mix of academy and fringe players as well as some experienced heads like Conor Coady.
Kone-Doherty scored Liverpool's only goal of the game and after a scintillating performance against Norwich City as well, it's very obvious how much he has outgrown the U21s.
It's why it's so essential for him to get a move this month and go out on loan. Kone-Doherty needs to be challenged. He needs to go to an environment where he will be playing first-team football and where he can test himself by going up against better players, against adults.
If he stays with the U21s for another full season, his development is only going to stagnate. There is nothing more for him to learn with the U21s.
Players have to be tested and challenged. The worst thing a young player can do is become comfortable in the environment they are in.
Right now, Kone-Doherty is on the precipice of that.
He's ready for the next step. It doesn't even need to be too high of a step. Somewhere in League One, where he can play regular attacking football and test himself in a challenging environment would be the perfect next destination for him.
But the fact of the matter is that he simply has to move. He has to go out on loan.
