“Sport announces that it has decided to hold the match against Flamengo, scheduled for 11/13, at the Arena de Pernambuco. The decision, which does not constitute selling the hosting rights, was made after the Club received and approved a proposal worth R$ 3 million net, presented by a company interested in the match’s revenue. The agreement includes participation in ticket pricing and game operations. The agreement was made at the end of July, with the caveat that confirmation would be given after the game was scheduled by the CBF, which happened this Thursday. The Club emphasizes that at no time did it consider selling the hosting rights or moving the match out of Pernambuco, despite having received offers to that effect. The choice of the Arena was made exclusively because the proposal was unprecedented and advantageous from a financial standpoint, while also ensuring the presence of its members and supporters. The amount received by Sport is the highest revenue ever recorded by Pernambuco football in a single match. For comparison, the previous highest gross revenue was R$ 1.8 million, in the derby against Náutico, in the 2024 state championship. It is important to note that the teams have already faced each other at the Arena on four other occasions (2014, 2015, 2016, and 2021). Matches against other Brazilian clubs such as Palmeiras, São Paulo, Corinthians, Santos, and Fluminense have also been held at the stadium. In the agreement, Sport secured key points to preserve its fan experience: Participation in game operations; Respect for the Arena’s traditional sectoring, with the red-and-black fans occupying their usual sections; Guarantee of check-ins for members; Participation in defining ticket pricing. The contract stipulates that the area allocated to Flamengo fans will be North Upper and North Lower. Sport remains attentive to market opportunities to use the stadium on a case-by-case basis, whenever it represents sporting and financial advantages. The Lion reaffirms its commitment to seeking alternatives that strengthen the Club, always with respect for its fans and its identity. According to journalist Venê Casagrande, Sport finalized the sale of the hosting rights from Ilha do Retiro to Arena de Pernambuco on July 30. The team will receive R$ 3 million, with payment made in full within 48 hours of signing.”
