Sporting Gijón ‘interested in’ Ibai Sanz after Bilbao Athletic scoring season | OneFootball

Killer Asturias reports that Sporting Gijón are interested in Bilbao Athletic striker Ibai Sanz, the club’s leading scorer this season, and have watched him in person several times in recent months.

Sanz extended his contract in February until June 2029. The Lezama technical staff plan a loan in Segunda to aid his development, echoing the positive spells of Canales at Racing and Gerenabarrena at Castellón this season.

Born in Barakaldo in 2003, Sanz is a combative, sharp-moving forward and a clean finisher. He has 10 goals and five assists this term for Bilbao Athletic, matching the 10 he scored last season in Primera Federación.

He previously had two loans, scoring eight for Gernika and four for Sestao River. Before that he struck 17 in 25 for Athletic’s Juvenil de Honor and featured for the second reserve side, Basconia.

Sporting missed out on the play-offs for promotion to Primera División and have shifted to rebuilding plans. They have already secured Sanse goalkeeper Egoitz Arana.
