Sporting Gijón sign Jorge Sáenz on deal to 2028 | OneFootball

The club said in a statement that Jorge Sáenz, formerly of Valencia, has joined Sporting Gijón as their second signing for the 2026/27 season on a contract until June 2028. The announcement came on Tuesday.

Born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on 17 November 1996, the centre-back came through CD Tenerife’s academy before establishing himself in the first team. He spent four seasons with the island club before stepping up.

Valencia signed him in 2019 under Marcelino and Mateu Alemany, but he did not make a competitive appearance at Mestalla. He was loaned to Celta Vigo, where he made his LaLiga debut, then CS Marítimo, Mirandés and Leganés, where he became captain.

He rejoined Leganés on a permanent deal in 2023/24 and played an important role in their promotion to Primera. He surpassed 100 official appearances for the club, including 23 in Spain’s top flight.

In his first comments as a Sporting player, Sáenz said the move had felt very positive and that he is excited to play at El Molinón. He added that he is keen to connect with the Mareona and enjoy the year together. He has already visited the stadium and Mareo and is eager for pre-season to begin.
