Mohamed Salah, a free agent since 30 June, is being targeted by Sporting Kansas City as the leading MLS suitor. According to The Athletic, the Missouri club are pushing to bring the Egypt captain to Major League Soccer.
Outside Europe, the Saudi Pro League is viewed as his most plausible destination, with clubs there showing marked interest, the report said.
Salah endured a complicated season at Liverpool, scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists in 41 matches, and he clashed with head coach Arne Slot in December.
After he announced his departure from Liverpool following nine years at the club, MLS commissioner Don Garber indicated the league would welcome him if he chose to come.
Kansas City believe they have a case. The club’s new majority shareholder is the son of Egyptian immigrants, and the team are rebuilding after Peter Vermes left his sporting director and head coach roles.
New sporting director David Lee intends to refresh a squad that had struggled to keep pace with the league in recent seasons.
Eliminated from the World Cup by Argentina in the round of 16 after a 2-3 defeat, Salah now has time to weigh up his next move.
