The League’s General Assembly on Wednesday featured rival disciplinary proposals from Sporting and Porto.
According to O Jogo, Sporting sought a significant increase in sanctions for club presidents and board members over public statements.
Porto went further, asking to add a clause that would expel presidents who label fellow presidents “coward” or “liar”, an allusion to Frederico Varandas’s remarks directed at André Villas-Boas after the first leg of the Taça de Portugal semi-final.
Sporting rejected Porto’s add-on and, in the end, all of Sporting’s proposals were voted down.
Earlier, Porto had also suggested that Sporting’s plan for VAR to assess corners should apply retrospectively.
Porto’s draft for Article 136 set suspensions of two to 10 years for such offences between presidents, plus fines from 200 UC to 1200 UC, unless expulsion was available at the time, in which case that would be imposed. In that scenario, the minimum and maximum fines would be doubled.
