Benfica have reportedly lost the race for Rodrigo Zalazar, with Sporting agreeing a deal with Braga for the Uruguayan midfielder.
According to A Bola, Sporting, led by president Frederico Varandas, finalised the remaining details with Braga chief António Salvador in recent hours to sign Zalazar.
The report adds that Sporting will pay €30 million, and Braga would also receive Diogo Travassos for €6-7 million as part of the agreement.
Benfica were the first to approach Zalazar, sounding out Braga’s demands and the No 10’s wishes. Their hesitation opened the door for Sporting to act more decisively and move ahead in the race for the 26-year-old.
Zalazar, valued at €22 million, has played 46 times for Braga this season, 27 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 15 in the Europa League, two in the Taça de Portugal and two in the Taça da Liga. Across 3,286 minutes he has scored 23 goals and supplied eight assists.
