The Secretaria de Patrimônio da União, SPU, has scheduled the auction of the land housing CT Rei Pelé in Santos for 4 August at 10:00 Brasília time, with proposals accepted until 9:59 that day.
The 39,000-square-metre site carries a minimum bid of R$ 79,760,000.00 in a mixed sale, with a sealed round followed by an open phase. Santos have said they are ready to take part. In July, ex-federal deputy Nicolino Bozzella Júnior said he had been involved in political manoeuvres to favour the club and suggested other bidders would “face a series of difficulties”, speaking on journalist Rodolfo Gomes’s YouTube channel.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office opened a procedure last year to examine possible irregularities in the land’s allocation, after public comments by Junior Bozzella, a special adviser to the club’s presidency, hinted the process could be steered towards Santos. Bozzella Júnior also said actions included arrangements with the Ministry of Sport, the SPU and Caixa Econômica Federal to delay the tender until the club could secure bank credit, and he claimed to know details of a notice that had yet to be published.
In a note at the time, Santos said it had followed all legal procedures, formally lodging a property acquisition proposal with the SPU on 1 February 2024.
The club added that the case runs on an official federal platform with full transparency, that publication of the tender notice is set solely by the competent public body, and that its legal department has offered to assist prosecutors, reaffirming the legality of its actions.
