Intriguing reading these comments from Spurs fans ahead of facing Newcastle United.
The early kick-off on Saturday and fair to say not a great deal of anticipation ahead of this game from home supporters…
It is over two months since Spurs fans saw their team win at home in the Premier League.
Whilst 15 goals conceded in their last four home games (all competitions), suggests the odd defensive worry.
Spurs fans commenting via their top supporters forum:
‘Newcastle will rip us to shreds and if they don’t they should be embarrassed.
We can’t cope with them at present. It’s that simple.
It is the same aa a few years ago when Bournemouth played us, and Howe was their manager. I think we beat them by 4 and Howe said we were too strong, too powerful. Too good.
That is Newcastle right now and we are possibly the easiest team to play against.
One outcome.’
‘I fear we are going to get brutalised quite severely in this one.’
‘I think Forster needs to have a blinder in this one if we are going to have any chance. They are red hot at the moment.
Probably get totally dominated possession wise and be under the pump most of the game.’
‘Unfortunately there is no way we win this, Gray has shown great composure as a CB but his inexperience in the position is obvious with the way opponents get behind him. Isak is going to have a field day.’
‘This is a horrible fixture. Their midfield of Joelinton, Bruno G and Tonali is very good, and will be hard to stop controlling the game. Isak is in the form of his life, and Gordon is playing very well. I don’t hold much hope at all, especially with the injuries and suspensions we have.’
‘Can’t really disagree. None of the eleven we have on the field Saturday would get in their team. That’s a sad state of affairs.’
‘This match will resemble a big guy having a fight with a really little guy.
The little guy will be swinging away relentlessly, while the big guy stands there, holding the little guy back by his forehead. As soon as the little guy stops swinging, the big guy will knock him out.
And someone will say the little guy was unlucky because he swung a lot of punches.’
‘This is a horrible fixture for us. The barcodes have come into a bit of form whilst the number of our players unavailable to us seems to grow every week. I suspect we will start well and fade. First goal will be all important but I get the impression the tank will empty on 60 minutes and the geordies will score a couple in the last 15 to run out 3-1 winners.’
‘Tbh its a bit of a disgrace were worried abour an eddie howe team. Dont get me wrong a decent manager but not a great manager. Our standards have dropped. Under poch i would see this as no less as routine win.’
‘I know it sounds ridiculous but I think we may nick this one.’
‘You’re right, it does sound ridiculous.’
‘I think this will be a bit like the Liverpool game, we will get chances and score 1 or 2, but they will get more chances and score more.
We have to hope their forwards have an off day and our forwards have a great one lol.’
‘Barring a red or two for Newcastle our chances are slim to none. They’re in excellent form, they attack and defend as a team, they don’t concede many and Isak is on fire. Losing Schar to suspension will be a blow which may = Botman who’s been out for over a year? making his comeback… if he does play, hopefully he’s as rusty as hell.’
‘1st game for a year…he’ll score a goal.’
‘This is disgusting. 94 quid. Newcastle a cat A game. We have a mid table squad, a conveyor belt of one rubbish player after another , and they think 94 quid is reasonable.’
‘Exactly. 94 quid to watch a team that won’t even be playing European football next season.
When we were still at the old WHL this isn’t exactly the dream that was sold was it.
The football club is just part of this multi sports and entertainment arena we play in. We are just seen as customers now. Nothing else. I pray one day we will be real football club again, but for the foreseeable future it doesn’t look good .’
‘Ask Maddison to come in field and crowd the middle because Newcastle will play Bruno, Joelinton and Tonali.
We don’t need Son being a ghost/passenger.
Ange won’t do any of this though and we will lose.’
’15 pages of pessimism. Show some bloody positivity. We’re at home, we always have goals in us and some of our defenders are close to returning.
If we are on our game and actually apply ourselves, I really think we can pull off a respectable 0-2 loss here.’
‘My ticket has been on the exchange for a week and nobody has bought it yet!’
‘You’ll need to throw in a 3 course meal and a weekend in Venice if you’re serious about shifting Spurs tickets nowadays.’
‘I bumped into my neighbour earlier and reminded him of our near wager on who will finish higher, he just laughed but he is a Barcode fanatic and his son is a ST holder.I asked him why they have suddenly started firing and his one word answer was Tonali he is running the show apparently hence Isak finding his scoring boots.’
‘Well I do wish we had Eddie Howe despite not thinking he’s all that great either.’
‘We have 7 injuries and a couple of suspensions, and a youth player out. What’s funny is Newcastle currently have 5 out themselves so no big gap.’
‘We aren’t Newcastle. I don’t have Newcastle level expectations. Hilariously you obviously do.
Btw – Newcastle’s squad depth and their injury crisis last season were both worse than what we are currently experiencing. Think they had twice the total number of players out.’
‘We lost to Palace with a fully fit back line and Ipswich with one injured player.
If we had to play the likes of Lascelles or Burn I think people on here would be in absolute bits.’
‘By the way, when they slapped us 4-0 last season they had their 2nd choice keeper and Murphy, Krafth and Burn in their backline.
With Anderson and longstaff in midfield. We had almost our entire fully fit XI. Almost like Ange isn’t good enough regardless of availability and what the likes of you say.’
‘Still standing with Ange. But we aren’t winning this game. We are gonna get bullied and outmuscled by their midfield and forward players. Without a tough enforcer in the middle, we can never hold up to these bullies. Also the stupidity of Bentancur to thank for.’
