Saturday 3 o'clock in the afternoon, prime time for football across the pyramid, with plenty of Tottenham Hotspur players learning their trade in the English Football League, and many of them were in action today - so let's see how they got on.
We'll start off with Will Lankshear, who secured a move to Championship side West Bromwich Albion yesterday evening, with the hope that he will come in and help the club reach the play-off places at the end of the season. However as he only arrived at the Hawthorns last night, he wasn't eligible or ready to make his debut for the Baggies today, as they lost 2-1 away at bottom of the table Plymouth Argyle. Their next game is at home to Sheffield Wednesday where Lankshear will be looking to play his first game for the side from the West Midlands, and will need to help the team bounce back from today's disappointing defeat.
Sticking to the Championship, it was another great day for Israeli winger Manor Solomon, after the bore draw away at Burnley on Monday, Leeds United bounced back with a bang and Solomon once again got on the score sheet. The 25-year-old scored the second out of Leeds' seven, yes seven goals they put past Cardiff, with the Bluebirds not having a single reply either. A fantastic day for Solomon with him and his side five points clear of Burnley in 3rd, after they once again drew 0-0, this time at Portsmouth. Leeds' next game is an FA Cup tie at home to fellow Championship club Millwall and then an away game that following Tuesday at Watford.
Ashley Phillips played the full 90 minutes in Stoke City's 1-2 away win at Hull, moving them three points clear of their opponents today and five ahead of the drop. They had to come from behind after going 1-0 down early on in the 6th minute and scored the winner with about fifteen minutes left to play. Phillips made 8 clearances and had 4 interceptions on what was a good day for the Potters. They next have an FA cup game at home to Cardiff City, who sit just one place below them in the Championship table, so will be a good opportunity to progress to the next round.
Yang Min-hyeok was a substitute for Queens Park Rangers, as they had a fairly local away day at Millwall. The R's would get off to the worst possible start when they conceded just a minute into the match, but equalised just a couple of minutes later in what was an eventful first period of the game. Eventually Millwall would regain the lead as the clock struck 25 and that would be the end result. Min-hyeok would get on for his debut however, being subbed on at 76 with the hope he could pull Rangers back into the game, but it wasn't to be. QPR's next game is a league fixture at home to Blackburn Rovers.
Lastly we'll go down to League 2, where 19-year-old George Abbott played another full 90 for Notts County in the centre of the park away at Gillingham. The Magpies would win again, keeping them in 3rd position, an automatic promotion spot in England's 4th tier, as there are four relegation spots in the division above. Abbott would be booked on 92 minutes for a foul to try and break the game up, as the Gills scored dead on 90 and there were five added by the referee, so it was a clever booking to get so they didn't get any momentum and Notts County could see the game out. Their next game is a home match vs second bottom Morecambe, so you'd be thinking it's a great chance to keep this run going and get another three points!
