South Korean waved a proper goodbye to his former employers after summer exit
Mathys Tel revealed he is in regular contact with Heung-min Son, describing his former Tottenham captain as a "big brother".
Son returned to Spurs on Tuesday night for the first time since he left the club in the summer to join LAFC.
He was on the pitch ahead of the 3-0 Champions League win over Slavia Prague to address the fans, telling them the club would "always be my home".
Son then watched from the stands as the north Londoners made it back-to-back wins to further ease the pressure on Thomas Frank after a disastrous November.
Tel came off the bench for his first Champions League minutes of the season, having replaced Dominic Solanke in the squad in the build-up to the match.
The Frenchman was particularly delighted to get the chance to play in front of Son, who was his captain for the first six months of his Spurs career.
"This means a lot for the club and for me as well because Sonny is like my big brother," Tel said.
"He is always texting me, his support is always behind me. Back in the Champions League, we won and Sonny was there, so a lot of good things.
"Sonny is a big legend at Tottenham, so when a guy like Sonny comes after he did everything, you give everything for him."
Son was in the home dressing room after the match to catch up with his former team-mates, and Mohammed Kudus gave an insight into those discussions.

"He said 'Keep going - it’s a long season, a long journey'," Kudus revealed.
"And to focus and keep doing what we are doing."
The Spurs winger added: “He is a legend here and it feels really good to have him here. I wish we played together a bit longer because I only had a few games with him in pre-season, but it’s really good to have him here.
"He is a big example to all of us here in how to represent the club and do our best for the club. It was a pleasure to have him in the dressing room and talk a little bit with him.
"I am just sad we didn’t play together, but that’s football. It was nice to see him."
Xavi Simons impressed against Slavia, scoring from the penalty spot to make it goals in consecutive games.
The £52million summer signing is starting to find real form in a Spurs shirt, wearing the No7 than Son donned in north London for a decade.
“I didn’t meet Son [before] personally and now a little bit," Simons said.
"He is a big legend for the club and it’s a real pleasure for me to take this number and build my own legacy, so really happy to meet him.”
