North Londoners need a win after latest defeat
Thomas Frank has revealed he will name a full-strength team as Tottenham host Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.
Frank is under increasing pressure after his side’s stoppage-time defeat to Bournemouth on Wednesday, and the Spurs boss is aware of what a good cup run could do for morale.
Spurs have not won the FA Cup since 1991, and after a disastrous start to their league campaign, remain desperate to build on last season’s Europa League success.
“I’m very, very aware that a cup run will be fantastic,” Frank said at his pre-match press conference.
“The FA Cup is the biggest cup and most historic cup tournament, not only in the UK and England, but also in the world.
“So we will do everything we can to win that game tomorrow and then progress to the next round and to install belief.
“That’s the only thing we’re thinking about.”
Frank, who has won 11 of his 30 games in charge, was notorious for rotating his side in the FA Cup during his time at Brentford, but there will be no drastic changes against Villa as he seeks to save Spurs’ season.
Injuries will force Frank’s hands in terms of selection, with Mohammed Kudus out until after the March international break and Rodrigo Bentancur set for an extended period on the sidelines.
However, with Xavi Simons back for selection and Destiny Udogie having returned to training, Spurs’ options have been bolstered heading into the weekend.
“Full strength. Yeah, [we will go] all in. Because we want to win it,” Frank continued.
“Both the game and the tournament if possible, but it’s one game at a time. We’re facing a very good Villa team. We know that, but we’ll go all in to try to win that game.”
