A pivotal week awaits for Spurs as they prepare to resume their relegation fight

Sean Dyche has laughed off speculation regarding talks with Tottenham over their manager’s job.

Dyche continues to be heavily linked with relegation-threatened Spurs as a potential firefighter to be parachuted in and save them from a disastrous exit from the Premier League.

He is said to be a leading contender for the role on a short-term basis if Tottenham part company with current interim head coach Igor Tudor, who is under significant pressure again after only seven games as Thomas Frank’s replacement following last week’s dismal 3-0 home defeat by relegation rivals Nottingham Forest.

Reports from The Telegraph suggest that Spurs will make a final decision on Tudor’s future at the club on Monday.

The former Juventus boss has been mourning the passing of his father Mario, whose death he was informed about immediately after the Forest game as he was unable to fulfil his post-match media duties.

Asked during a weekend appearance on talkSPORT about the latest social media whispers regarding talks with Spurs on Friday, Dyche said: “It's brilliant, honestly.

“I was in a pub just up the way near my place I've got down here and this guy goes, ‘Oh, you're meant to be in talks with Spurs tonight’.

“I went, ‘Well, I'm sat next to you having a pint of Guinness, so it's unlikely. I said, ‘Unless you work for Spurs and they're in the Seven Stars pub having a pint of Guinness’, I said, ‘it's highly unlikely’.

“No I'm not, I'm with you mate and I'm on talkSPORT, that's what I'm doing.'

Asked how he manages such rumours, Dyche responded: “Well, you get clickbait, don’t you.

“No matter what you do, it's a very tricky situation. When you're a manager, you know you're going to get asked these questions at some point at whatever part of your career, if you’re doing alright.

“You get asked and you try and be respectful, let's use Tottenham as an example. Brilliant club, massive club and all the rest of it. One of my first ever memories is Ricky Villa's goal [in the 1981 FA Cup final replay against Manchester City] and all that.

“So you go, ‘Yeah, I'm flattered’. And they go, ‘He hasn't said no, he wants it really’.”

Former Burnley and Watford boss Dyche was sacked by Everton in January 2025 and returned to management at Forest, where he started his playing career, in October as the replacement for ex-Spurs coach Ange Postecoglou, but lasted only 114 days as their third manager of the season before being succeeded by Vitor Pereira.

It has been suggested that Dyche would be an option for Tottenham if former Brighton and Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi did not want to take the job until the summer, when Mauricio Pochettino - currently in charge of the United States national team leading into a home World Cup - would also be among the candidates after his current contract expires, if Spurs retain their Premier League status.

Austrian Adi Hutter, most recently of Monaco, has also been linked recently as a temporary replacement for Tudor.
