Tottenham will welcome Evangelos Marinakis into the directors’ lounge if the Nottingham Forest owner attends Sunday’s Premier League relegation six-pointer.

According to Telegraph, Forest threatened legal action against former chairman Daniel Levy after Spurs tried to trigger a £60m clause in Morgan Gibbs-White’s deal, alleging confidentiality issues. Forest kept him on a new three-year contract, and Marinakis later claimed the club had prevailed.

Despite that dispute, a Spurs board source said Marinakis would be very welcome on Sunday and that there are no issues.

Gibbs-White was Spurs’ top No 10 target, then Arsenal gazumped them for Eberechi Eze. Xavi Simons, effectively third choice, lifted optimism with his Champions League brace against Atlético Madrid on Wednesday.

Simons has started three of Igor Tudor’s six games and impressed off the bench against Liverpool. Tudor said he was motivated with the right mentality and that they need this in the run-in.

Tudor hopes James Maddison may yet challenge for the No 10 role before the season ends and said Mohammed Kudus and Rodrigo Bentancur are progressing. He added that Maddison is already working with the ball and sprinting.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario will have hernia surgery after the Forest match, timed around a three-week gap before Sunderland on April 12. Spurs hope he could return within the next month, otherwise Antonin Kinsky may be required after the international break.

Vicario has started the last two games and remains in line to face Forest.
