Spurs attacker Mathys Tel admitted the team is “mad” after they failed to hold on for the win against Man Utd in the Premier League on Saturday.

Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring in the first half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but the hosts fought back with two late goals.

Mathys Tel levelled matters with a deflected strike before Richarlison diverted Wilson Odobert’s shot past Senne Lemmens with his head.

Despite having to finish the game with ten men after substitute Benjamin Sesko left the pitch with an injury, United found an equaliser when Matthijs de Ligt headed home from a corner in the 96th minute.

Spurs put in an improved performance in the second half after their dismal display against Chelsea last week, but Tel felt they should have come away with a win.

“The feeling is 50-50,” he told TNT Sports. “We concede one goal, we were losing. Second half our reaction was good, we changed the game. But we’re also mad because we had to win today. But this is football, we have to keep going and keep working.”

Speaking to BBC Sports, the 20-year-old Frenchman added: “This is football. Sometimes 50-50, sometimes something else. I want to stay positive because the reaction in the second half was really good. We showed great mentality.

“First half we tried things. We were really patient. We lost two points. We get one but we deserved to win this game. Like I say we need to stay positive and keep going. Working hard every day.”

De Ligt, however, felt that United would have been more deserving winners on the day.

“Luckily we got a point, I think we deserved more the way we played, I felt the second half we were a little tired. We didn’t get the chance to get out of our half,” he told TNT Sports.

“Their first goal was a bit lucky, I’m a bit upset about that, but I’m proud of how the team fought back and got a point at a difficult stadium.
